Jason Collins Signs with Brooklyn Nets

History was being made tonight as Jason Collins is now signed to a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets. Not only he suited up for tonight's game against the Los Angeles Lakers, but he is now the first openly gay player in the NBA.

The team confirmed the signing on their Twitter page with a pciture of Collins and head coach Jason Kidd tweeting, "RT to welcome @jasoncollins34 to Brooklyn! #Nets."

ESPN's Mike Mazzeo reports that he will still wear 98 on his jersey, in honor of Matthew Shepard who was murdered in a anti-gay hate crime in 1998.

In tonight's game, The Brooklyn Nets take a 108 to 102 win over the LA Lakers. They will now take on the Portland Trail Blazers this Wednesday in Portland, Oregon. 

Metrodome Demolition

 Another portion that was used for the roof structure of the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome was being demolished by using controlled explosives. KSFY-TV reports that at around 7:30 this morning officials set off charges and within a number of seconds, the roof ring fell and several walls came falling down in a cloud of dust.

The Metrodome was supposed to be demolished last week but officials had to put it off after a part of the ring beam fell out of sequence.

While the public wasn't even allowed within 250 feet from the site, the Metro Transit had to close it's route alongside the Metrodome for the demolition.
